May 6th 2011- Sea Day.

Begrudgingly I woke up for Legends rehearsal for noon.  I completely shrugged off lunch for rehearsal which was something I would regret later during the day.  Rehearsal was lovely.  We even had a couple of people who could sing.  I just sat there and read my kindle for the entirety of the rehearsal.  After all, the show was automated so what did they need me there to do anyways?  All I had to do was set it up which didn’t take a lot of time.  After rehearsal we got a call from “Club 02” (it’s the teenager space) saying that most of their lights weren’t working and they needed them to be repaired.  Honestly, I don’t really know why all of a sudden all the lights aren’t working but I guess the people who are in charge of the lounges don’t pay much attention to the lighting.  He said that he normally doesn’t use the lights in there because the teenagers complain about them but he needed to get them repaired because he was doing a hand off in the next couple of weeks.  Out of ten moving lights only one worked.  They were the mini macs made by Martin (yet another light to add to my repair inventory on my resume).  Honestly the light didn’t consist of much it looked like a source four on a sidearm.  We figured out that most of the lamps were dead so we had to replace all of those (at least it wasn’t some disastrous mechanical problem).  The other type of light in there was a weird gobo projector thing.  It basically just scrolled through colors and gobos and projects them.  It didn’t have much of a throw either.  I think it was called Martin Ego (or some nonsense like that).  We found out that most of the lights were missing their lamp bases which were totally weird.  Apparently the previous technician knew they were missing yet he tried to just wrap the wires around the lamp pins which are extremely dangerous.  No wonder why they don’t work.  We checked the paperwork and it was noted in the weekly paperwork that they weren’t working so I guess the parts are just on order.  Dave was telling me that it takes forever to get parts if the warehouse doesn’t have them, something like three months to get some parts.  So I might have to repair those fixtures, I might not.  We managed to get five of the ten fixtures working so it was enough to give the new 02 person something to play with.  That took up some time.  My next venture was in the back lounge.  I was running one of the comedy show for the evening.  That was pretty simple; I just had to have one microphone and change out the set from the karaoke to the comedy drop.  I don’t really like working with audio.  I think it stems from a lack of knowledge of the systems that they have in place.  I mean it isn’t that hard, just a couple of microphones and some other mics for the band but it’s more noticeable if you screw up with audio than with lighting and I’m not really used to that yet.  The comedian was pretty good, but I had to load in some exit music for his act and I wasn’t sure which song to use so I flipped through the system we had for that.  Sure enough, I forgot to mute the system so there was a quick second of music during his act.  Whoops.  I managed to catch it before the band kicked in on the track but it was too late.  It played over the entire system and the comic even made me one of his jokes. Oh, he was so funny. Oh well.  At least he had bloody exit music.  After that I proceeded back to the main lounge for Legends.  The show proceeded pretty well and the audience enjoyed themselves.  We had some people who could actually sing.  Aretha Franklin was pretty good tonight.  Once again the costumes we not complementary and Elton John was the uber muscle builder again (I’m starting to think that they do this on purpose).  He almost couldn’t bend over during his bow.  Frank Sinatra was wonderful tonight.  He was a short little Asian guy who played him pretty well.  I think he was one of the best people this week.  Of course, Britney was a complete failure.  She couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, poor thing.  I quickly turned to my kindle during her act.   After the show I helped them get ready for debark tomorrow and quickly handed off the phone to Tom.  Thank GOD! I’m finally rid of that thing.  No more stupid people calling me at 7am for something I can’t fix.  I was truly overjoyed.  After that I quickly retreated back to my cabin to finish up some writing and reading a bit.  I know I should go down to the crew bar for Dave’s last day but I just don’t have the energy even if I had an hour and a half nap today.  I think I’ll try to get off ship tomorrow in Miami.  I was told that there is a mall nearby so I might venture off tomorrow to try to pick up some things.  Ryan gave me directions so I just have to follow them and make sure I get back to the ship on time.  After a week of being stuck on ship I really just want to get off on land to do some stuff so tomorrow should be very interesting.
