May 10th- Sea Day
Honestly, I didn’t do a lot on the sea day today. I mainly spent most of the day catching up on my sleep. I went to bed pretty early last night and woke up around 3 pm. I got over 14 hours of sleep. I must have been pretty tired to have slept that long, but life on a ship is always go, go, go. I felt like a bear coming out of hibernation and I was just as hungry as one. Sadly, the mess has very specific hours so I miss breakfast (all of the time) and sometimes I even miss lunch. The next time I’m in Miami I’ll have to stop by a grocery store and grab some crackers or granola bars to keep in my room for such occasions. I didn’t have any shows or stuff tonight and my earliest call was 10:45 for laser tag. Around 5 I was getting pretty hungry so I decided to hack into my pineapple. All I had was my leatherman and the grocery bag that it came in so I figured I’d make the best of it. After all I can’t waste a perfectly good pineapple. So I simply used one of my knives that I never use on my leatherman and hacked the skin off and ate it like a chicken leg. I had to put my uniform through the wash because of all the juices but it was so delicious. After laser tag I heard there was going to be a “BJ tournament” in the crew bar (A Blackjack tournament!! What were you thinking??!) or at least that’s what the fliers said around the ship so I decided to head on down. It was a $10 buy in and the top three would split the earnings for the night. I was very tempted to have a go but I decided not to. I was having a lot of fun just watching the people play. Some of the people were very experienced and some were very new. One of the girls didn’t know that the objective was to get as close to 21 as possible. I guess she thought that 20 was the highest score. It was really funny because she couldn’t figure out why she kept losing to the house with 19. Jen, our cruise director, got really lucky. She ended up winning over 9000 “dollars.” She had a fair amount of chips but decided to go all in on a dare and got a king and an ace right off the bat. She took first place that night. I think her cash prize was $500 so it had a great return (a $10 game gets you $500!) Blackjack ran until last call so it was amusing to watch as the night progressed.
